The port city of Guangzhou, which spans the mighty Pearl River to the northwest of Hong Kong, is one of China's most exciting and dynamic cities, coming in third place only to Shanghai and Beijing in terms of economic significance. Guangzhou, a bustling metropolis with ancient temples and gleaming skyscrapers.
The village, also referred to as a "village in the city," was created when a sizable portion of rural land was expropriated during the process of urbanisation, with the farmers who were living in the original village still lagging behind in development and outside of the modern urban management.
Urban villages are settlements that can be found in both the suburbs and the heart of Guangzhou, is where old and new China converge.
